Celebrating 100 Years of Iconic Chevrolet Trucks

100 year

2018 marks the 100th anniversary of the first production Chevrolet Truck. In celebration of this milestone, we are taking a look back at 10 of the most influential trucks in Chevrolet’s history. Additionally, Chevrolet is honoring its truck centennial with a special announcement!

Here are 10 of the most iconic Chevrolet trucks of the past 100 years:

  • 1918 One-Ton: This was the first production truck from Chevrolet. It took inspiration from the vehicles that were being used in the plants to move parts and pieces. It featured an open cab and was purpose-built.
  • 1929 International Series LD: Eleven years later, this was the first truck with a closed cab. Interior design began to become important for comfort and style.
  • 1938 Half-Ton: The Half-Ton was the first truck created by the newly formed Design Center. This year also saw a deviation in the design of trucks and cars, realizing that trucks needed their own identity.
  • 1947 3100 Series: It’s known for having one of the most iconic designs in automotive history. When people think of vintage trucks, the 3100 Series is likely to come to mind. This was also the beginning of the horizontal-bar front grill instead of the traditional vertical-bar grill.
  • 1955 3124 Series Cameo Carrier: This was the first Chevrolet truck with fleetside design. During this time, styling became a selling point for cars which inspired more focus to be put on a truck’s design as well. Instead of the design ending with the cab, the Cameo Carrier was designed bumper-to-bumper.
  • 1967 C10 Fleetside: Metallic paint was introduced and was used to highlight the subtleties and body lines that weren’t as obvious before.
  • 1973 C30 One-Ton Dually: Many consider this to be the first modern heavy-duty truck. The design reflected the dramatic increase in capability for customers who used their trucks for both work and play.
  • 1988 C/K 1500: The 1988 C/K 1500 was the first truck whose design was influenced by aerodynamics. It looked very advanced for its time and even the interior looked futuristic.
  • 1988 Silverado 1500 LT Z71: This was the first generation using the Silverado nameplate.
  • 2007 Silverado 1500: The 2007 Silverado model brought back the “tough truck” look and feel, even though it was still influenced by design and aerodynamics.

After a century, Chevrolet is still the only manufacturer to offer customers a three-truck portfolio and a full line of special editions. The Chevrolet truck line-up gives customers more options to find the perfect truck to fit their needs and lifestyle. To honor its history, Chevrolet has announced the new 2018 Silverado and 2018 Colorado Centennial Special Editions. These Centennial Editions feature design elements inspired by Chevrolet trucks throughout history, including a Centennial Blue paint, exclusive heritage bowtie emblems, and 100-year badges.

The 2018 Silverado will be available in October, and the 2018 Colorado Centennial Edition will be available in November.

Bonus Fact: The 1918 Chevrolet One-Ton was powered by a four-cylinder engine rated at 36 horsepower. Its top speed was 25mph.

The 2018 Equinox Diesel Offers Best in Class Fuel-Efficiency

2018-Equinox-Diesel

The all-new 2018 Equinox is a fresh and modern compact SUV featuring an expressive design, increased cargo space, the latest connectivity and purposeful technologies to help keep passengers safe, comfortable and connected. We’re excited to announce the 2018 Chevrolet Equinox will also be available in a Diesel model!

Get ready to drive past the pumps as the diesel model offers an EPA-certified 39 MPG highway with the available 1.6L turbo-diesel engine. This number is expected to put this SUV at the top of its class, having greater highway mileage than the 2017 Nissan Rogue Hybrid and 2017 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid.  A 577-mile range means the Equinox diesel can drive farther between fill-ups, like going from Baltimore to Grand Rapids, Michigan. Pricing for the turbo-diesel model starts at $31,435 when it goes on sale this fall.

With 240 lb-ft of torque and variable-geometry turbocharger, it will generate strong torque at low rpm and more horsepower at higher rpm. The strong torque provides the feeling of a larger engine, with exceptional smoothness and quietness. The engine also features stop/start technology to optimize efficiency in stop-and-go driving and it is compatible with B20 bio-diesel fuel.

Chevrolet continues to lead with technologies that offer customers more choice. The full Equinox lineup will give drivers more choices for performance and fuel-efficiency. Developed by GM’s Diesel Product Center in Torino, Italy, more than 24,000 hours of computer analysis and more than 4.35 million miles of driving were spent on perfecting this vehicle. But what matters most is the adventures and experiences where you will take it!

2018 Chevrolet Equinox: Lean, Mean… and Strong

The all-new Chevrolet Equinox has been completely redesigned for the 2018 model year; a redesign that includes shedding 400 pounds of extra weight! So, what do drivers gain by this 10% body-mass loss? For starters, our most popular crossover is now more agile on the road and offers drivers a more safe, comfortable driving experience.

Thanks to a lighter, stiffer, and stronger structure, the 2018 Equinox rewards drivers in the following areas:

SAFETY: High-strength and ultra-high strength steel creates a safety cage around its passengers, which are complimented by the high-level restraint systems and available safety features.

RIDE & HANDLING: By reducing the chassis flex in the Equinox suspension system, Chevrolet engineers were able to focus more on overall ride comfort and precision on the road.

QUIETNESS & REFINEMENT: The stiffer body-structure of the Equinox also pays off when it comes to blocking out exterior noise and vibrations. Contributing the overall weight loss of the Equinox, the stiffer body-structure also means that engineers could reduce the amount of sound-absorbing materials in the overall design.

FUEL ECONOMY: This might seem like a no-brainer, but we’re pretty excited about this added benefit of the 2018 Equinox! The lower the weight, the better then fuel efficiency. The all-new Equinox delivers EPA estimated 32MPG and 29MPG on the highway with the standard 1.5L turbo and 2.0L turbo engines. The diesel engine offers a GM-estimated 40MPG on the highway.
