We know what you’re thinking. Damn. The 2SS is perfect.

Well, it is. We couldn’t deny that. But, perfection is the enemy of innovation. This statement brings us to the introduction of our final trim, the Camaro ZL1.

ZL1 – Meet Mr Supercharged

The ZL1 was engineered to crown the Camaro legacy with a supercharged 6.2L V8 engine boasting 650 horsepower and 650 lb.-ft. of torque and a 6-speed manual transmission. The ZL1 comes complete with Active Rev Matching or an available paddle-shift 10-speed automatic transmission.

We’ll give you a minute catch your breath before we show you a picture…or maybe this is a good opportunity for you to vaguely stare off into the distance imagining the sound of a revving engine on that picturesque road that we know you’ve had on your mind since the beginning of this post.

Ok, let’s bring it back, we’re almost done.

Chevrolet takes the Redline to the next level

Earlier this month at the Chicago Auto Show, Chevrolet announced the Redline special edition trim series across nine of its cars, trucks, and crossovers! Redline first made an appearance as a concept back in 2015 at the SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association) in Las Vegas and has since become a reality!

All models in the Redline series come equipped with unique accent packages: black wheels featuring red lines, black-out grilles, black badges and black Chevy bowtie logos. Depending on the vehicle, individual models will start to differ based on customers’ preferences.

Redline trims will be available to order on the 2017 Cruze Sedan, 2017 Cruze Hatch, 2017 Colorado, 2017 Camaro, 2017 Colorado, 2017 Silverado 1500, 2018 Malibu, 2018 Trax, 2018 Equinox, and 2018 Traverse.

“Our special edition lineup has been popular with customers and dealers, alike” said Chevrolet’s U.S. vice president Brian Sweeney. “Since the introduction of special editions on vehicles the like Silverado and Camaro, vehicle average transaction prices have increased, time to turn has decreased, and conquest rates have risen, which has contributed to making Chevrolet the fastest-growing brand in the industry two years in a row.”

Chevrolet Introduces the 2014 Camaro Z28

2014 Camaro Z28 - 011Unveiled at the New York International Auto Show – Z/28

Chevrolet introduced the restyled 2014 Camaro line at the New York Auto Show, including the return of the Z/28, the most iconic model in Camaro history.  A refreshed Camaro for the 2014 model year. Most importantly, with the new Camaro comes the resurrection of the Z/28 moniker, which will be powered by the amazing 7.0L LS7 V8 engine mated to a six-speed Tremec TR6060 manual transmission. This puts the output of the Z/28 at 500 howling horsepower, and 470 pounds-feet of torque, fitting perfectly between the 426 horsepower Camaro SS, and the 580 horsepower Camaro ZL1. In many track-oriented circles, the 2014 Camaro Z/28 is perhaps the most capable Camaro ever.

Chevy claims that the 2014 Camaro Z/28 is an average of three seconds faster per lap than the more powerful ZL1. This is thanks to chassis revisions that allow the Z/28 to grip at up to 1.05 lateral G forces. Then there are the Brembo brakes, which provide 1.5G of stopping force. And last, but certainly not least, is the fact that the Z/28 is 300 pounds lighter than the mighty ZL1, thanks to several incremental tweaks, ranging from thinner rear window glass, to lighter wheels. And it still has its second row of seats.

2014 Camaro Z28 - 005Inside, the Z/28 is treated with Recaro racing seats, a flat-bottom steering wheel, and seat cut outs that seem ready for five-point harnesses.

To keep the Z/28 stable on the track, it features a full aerodynamic package consisting of a front splitter, underbody panel, fender flares, extended rocker panels, and a rear spoiler and functional diffuser. The 20-inch wheels used on the SS and ZL1 were swapped for 19-inch wheels, which reduce total unsprung weight by a total of 42 lb and lower the car’s center of gravity 33 millimeters. Rather than utilizing different-sized wheels and tires front to rear, all four corners of the Z/28 are shod with 305/30ZR-19 Pirelli PZero Trofeo R tires — the ultra-high-performance tire’s production debut — that are believed to be the widest front tires on any production car.

2014 Camaro Z28 - 009

“As the ultimate track-capable Camaro, this car restores the mission of the original Z/28, and serves as a testament to the expertise of Chevrolet as the best-selling brand of performance cars,” said Mark Reuss, president, GM North America. “The build sheet is the wish list of any racer: lightweight, high-revving, dry-sump LS7 engine; carbon-ceramic brakes; integrated coolers for track use; true aerodynamic downforce, and a significant reduction in curb weight. This car could only come from Chevrolet, and could only be called the Z/28.”

It’s a beauty!
